Inside Info - the animalhouse - Whatever happened to Shoegazing?

Lost in history, hidden by the gloss of Britpop, there was a band called Ride who regularly shared equal billing with The Charlatans and whom both Thom Yorke and Gaz Coombes looked up to. Pale of face, long of hair and fey of demeanour, they virtually invented Shoegazing, left an outstanding debut behind before following an increasingly Byrdsian root on their next three efforts before imploding. Wither Indie's pin-ups now?

Andy Bell is easier to pin down, emerging from the post-Ride fallout with his poor-man's-verve outfit, Hurricane #1 before swopping the plodding rock bombast he wrote for the plodding rock bombast Noel Gallagher writes. Steve Queralt disappeared and so did lead singer Mark Gardener and drummer Loz Colbert. Until now that is.

Hooking up with ex-Mystics Sam Williams as well as bassist Hari T and Jason King on keyboards, the Animal House serve up sixties-tinged, psychedelic rock that has had the critics frothing. Their first three Eps (the animalhouse ep, welcome to the animalhouse and small) all sold out within weeks of release and they are set to take on the charts with their infectious current single 'Ready to Receive'.

The album is due out July 31st.
