It takes an age for Animal House to get started as their hi-tech gadgetry decides to have a tea break but ÎReady To Receiveâ kick-starts the psychedelic beast into life. Stripped of their usual blipvert backdrop they still exude skinny cool and an air of showmanship, Mark and Sam trading power harmonies that every bunch of sorry Beach Boys rip-offs would kill for. Animal House take Beatles melodies and coat them in an urgent cosmic sci-fi shell, living proof that pop means nothing and why should it?. That they, at times, sound like an uncanny cross between Ride and the Mystics shouldnât come as a surprise to anyone but really it is. The most pleasant surprise this side of Christmas.
