the animalhouse
ready to receive
(boilerhouse)
you can almost hear the sharpening of rock
family trees originator pete frame's pencil ready for his genealogy about
the late nineties oxford indie scene. the animahouse comprises of artisits from
two of the biggest bands from that period. ride's guitar and vocalists mark
gardener and supergrass producer sam williams. they paired up in late 1997, and
this album sounds like a good two years worth of getting their act together. ready
to receive doesn't mark a massive departure for either individual, but it is
an enormously enjoyable album throughout. the radio-friendly hits are all packed
at the beginning to get you in the mood, but the more imaginative stuff pops up
halfway through with the easy swig of speakeasy and dark groove of essence.
